Spaces is the tenth track on One Direction's fourth studio album, Four.[1]
It was briefly added to and subsequently removed from the On The Road Again Tour setlist during the North American leg.
Lyrically, the song, contrasting with many others by One Direction, focuses on the anxieties surrounding strong relationships instead of the pleasures.

The song was scheduled to be released alongside the release of the album, however it was leaked 9 days prior.
The song has become very poignant in the wake of Zayn leaving the band, as it examines the wearing down of a strong relationship over time and features the line "Who's gonna be the first one to say goodbye?".
“Spaces” could possibly be about the strong relationships between the members of the band, much like “Don’t Forget Where You Belong”. Although most fans strongly disagree with this notion, if true this would be the first time the band have openly mentioned any fear of a break-up.
The song has also been the inspiration for the name of the band's fourth fragrance "Between Us". The commercial features visual references to the lyrics.
